State Senator Rick Edmonds is a longtime resident of the Baton Rouge area, where he and his wife, Cindy, have built their life and raised their family. Their children and grandchildren also call the Baton Rouge area home, giving Rick a deeply personal stake in the community’s future.
For more than a decade, Rick has represented the Baton Rouge area in the Louisiana Legislature. He currently serves as the Republican state senator representing families and communities in Louisiana’s capital region and is the chairman of the Senate Education Committee. He is also a member of the Senate Finance, Insurance, and Judiciary A committees and serves on the Joint Legislative Budget, Joint Legislative Capital Outlay, and Joint Medicaid Oversight committees. Before his election to the Louisiana State Senate in 2023, Rick represented District 66 in the Louisiana House of Representatives.
During his legislative service, Rick has been recognized multiple times as a Most Valuable Policymaker by the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI). He has also received honors from the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association, the Southwest Louisiana Chamber of Commerce, and Louisiana Family Forum.
Before entering elected office, Rick served as vice president of Louisiana Family Forum (LFF), a statewide organization dedicated to defending faith, freedom, and traditional family values.
Rick has more than 40 years of ministry experience. Prior to his service at LFF, Rick has pastored several churches in Louisiana. He has also led mission projects in more than 20 countries. His work has included Bible translation and distribution, as well as projects supporting churches, orphanages, and children’s camps.
Rick earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from East Texas Baptist University and a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where he also pursued doctoral studies.
Rick and Cindy were high school sweethearts and have four sons, four daughters-in-law, and eight grandchildren. With their family rooted in the Baton Rouge area, Rick’s service in the Legislature has always been grounded in the community he calls home.
